The saying “age is just a number” rings true for many people. Just because some piece of paper says you’re a certain age, it doesn’t mean you have to act in line with what society thinks is age-appropriate behavior. Lots of us feel and act young at heart and we often enjoy activities that keep us in touch with our youth. Then there are those who are wise beyond their years and instead act more older and mature than their age lets on.

When it comes to our vision however, science has found that people of different ages tend to have different levels of color perception. A teenage individual may see orange when looking at a picture, but someone forty years older may happen to see red when looking at that exact same image. Part of what affects our perception of colors is how we approach a picture when viewing it. For example, young adults will often go about it by first examining the details and how they work together before looking at the whole thing. In contrast, an elderly person doesn’t need to do any of that and instead they drift over the image before focusing in on some distinct portion that catches their eye. As such, the specific colors that you believe you are perceiving can say a lot about your age and the life state you’re currently at.
