AFTER SEEING HIS DAUGHTER’S REVEALING SELFIES ONLINE, CHRIS MARTIN DECIDED TO TAKE SOME SELFIES OF HIS OWN, AND BECAME AN INTERNET SENSATION OVERNIGHT.
Chris “Burr” Martin was unpleasantly surprised when he noticed a comment reading “You’re so hot!” on one of his 19 year-old daughter Cassie’s selfies from her Instagram account. But instead of doing what most dads would do, like giving an authoritative lecture, or demanding that she stop posting her racy pictures, this dad did something different- he decided to take some “sexy selfies” of his own.
“I did it because she posted something and the guys in the comment section were too much,” said Martin. “So to put water on the fire, I posted one like it and said, ‘What about me, guys?’ and that did it.”
This 49 year-old dad from Spokane, Washington is a comedian by trade, and obviously his sense of humour overflows into his parenting style.
When Chris Martin started posting his daughter’s recreated selfies, he had 49 followers. Now, he currently has almost 70,000- way more than Cassie and her 40,000.
“So my daughter has been posting sexy selfies of herself and instead of telling her to stop, well, I thought of something better. #dadbod #dadselfie”
When asked how Cassie responded to his initial post, Martin said “Probably with an eye roll.”
The self-proclaimed “selfie dad” says he wanted to teach his daughter an important lesson, as well as the people who followed her on Instagram.
“I wanted to bring attention to her that they may be a little racy and I wanted to let some of the people in her comment section know her dad was watching because some of the comments, especially from boys were pretty vulgar.”
“She’s over 18 so she could do what she wanted to a point but also, fighting with some of the commenters over the Internet would have been a crazy thing to do.”
“My dad’s humor has always been twisted in with his parenting,” Cassie said. “I think some parents should tie in some comedy with their opinions on certain life choices their kids make, but understand your child first before doing it. Different families have different ways to express their voices.”
“A while ago some of you saw i was copying the photos my daughter would post on her Facebook, mainly because i told her to tone it down. She did a little but i still kept it up because sometimes I’m just bored.”
Yes, this certainly has kept the internet amused, but it’s also had quite the impact on Cassie and Chris’s relationship.
Chris Martin’s wife, Jani, told CNN, “I was really stunned by everything that happened. I’m glad it happened though because now they spend more time together.”
