According to Mark Zuckerberg, all of us should be paid a universal basic income.
The Facebook founder stated that ensuring everyone received basic payment would allow them to risk more and buy new things while knowing that they could still afford the necessary goods.
The thought of a universal basic income, or UBI, has become famous among technologists and people in Silicon Valley. This idea allows for more redistributive policies and will be significant when automation takes their jobs, they say.
Take a looks at gadgets and tech news in the pictures below:
Mark Zuckerberg suggested that the universal basic income would become part of a “new social contract for our generation”. He made the suggestion during a Harvard speech. Many people who listened to his speech said that he sounded as if he was aiming to become president.
“We should have a society that measures progress not just by economic metrics like GDP, but by how many of us have a role we find meaningful,” Zuckerberg declared. “We should explore ideas like universal basic income to give everyone a cushion to try new things.”
“We’re going to change jobs many times, so we need affordable child care to get to work and health care that aren’t tied to one company. We’re all going to make mistakes, so we need a society that focuses less on locking us up or stigmatizing us. And as technology keeps changing, we need to focus more on continuous education throughout our lives.”
“And yes, giving everyone the freedom to pursue purpose isn’t free. People like me should pay for it. Many of you will do well and you should, too.”
Zuckerberg's speech – which concentrated on political and public policy issues – is just the most recent event to lead to speculation that he may be planning to introduce a presidential campaign. Zuckerberg has been on tour around numerous parts of the US meeting people and posting his policy suggestions for improving their lives. However, he has frequently denied that he is gearing up to try and lead the US.
