A mother's grief has been captured in a shocking picture of a monkey clutching her collapsed child.
The mother, who seemed to be sobbing as it held the limp body of her baby, was photo-shooted in Jabalpur, India, by 31-year-old Avinash Lodhi.
Fortunately, seconds after the picture was taken, the little monkey appeared to make a full recovery.
The picture shows a mother holding her baby monkey, appearing to cry in anguish as the youngster's health fades. Luckily, the little monkey did recover fully.
Avinash said: 'This picture is very close to my heart because throughout my entire photography career I've never seen anything like this.'
The photo was taken in Madhya Pradesh, in central India. As Avinash adds: 'It was so quick I didn't even know what was happening when I took the picture but as soon as I confirmed the image I was silent for an hour.
This moment is rare, especially with animals.'
