30 Stunning Pictures From All Over The World That Prove The Unique Beauty Of Redheads

When someone thinks of redheads, they usually think of Ireland and Scotland. However, American photographer Brian Dowling, currently living in Germany, took pictures of more than 130 redheads in total from 20 different countries for his artistic project “Redhead Beauty”.

Red hair is definitely the rarest natural hair color in the world. That's caused by a gene mutation known as MC1R which affects approximately 1% of the world population. This particular gene mutation can also have an effect on a person’s tolerance to pain or sunlight. In addition, redheads would most probably have blonde or pure white hair, instead of gray, when they age.

Brian began this portrait project that took him three summers to prove the unique beauty of red hair and fight against stereotypes people often have of redheads. His art book called “Redhead Beauty” is available on Kickstarter.
