Mother Refused To Give Up Her Disabled Son... 29 Years Later, He's A Harvard Law Student!

When Zou Hongyan welcomed her only child to the world in 1988, terrible birth complications left the little boy disabled for life with cerebral palsy. Doctors in her native Hubei province advised her to give him up, an opinion that even her own husband shared because they believed the boy would live a miserable, worthless life. Nevertheless, Zou, rejected their claims, divorced her son’s father, and made it her life's purpose of treating and supporting her little boy when nobody else would.

Zou had to work at least three jobs at the same time to support their small family, including protocol training and insurance sales. She also had to play brain-boosting games with her kid to stimulate his senses and boost the foundations of his intelligence. She even decided to teach him how to use chopsticks although his stiff hands could barely grip them.

As she told the South China Morning Post, she didn't want her son to feel ashamed about his physical problems. “Because he had inferior abilities in many areas, I was quite strict on him to work hard to catch up where he had difficulties.”

After 29 years, that same boy – Ding Ding – is now a Peking University graduate and has earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences and engineering. Also, he's recently become a Harvard Law student. We can only imagine how proud his hardworking mother is of her son’s unbelievable progress, and how grateful Ding Ding must be to the person who loved him and supported him this much. (h/t)
