When Daniel Modøl went outside to capture a distant storm he didn’t expect it to get so close. He was merely standing on his terrace in Gjerstad, Aust-Agder in Norway and filming lightning bolts flashing in the area. But nature had planned something else.
While still in his flip-flops, Daniel saw a lightning strike leaving a crater in his backyard about fifteen to twenty feet (4,5-6 meters) away from him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t fast enough to record the near-instantaneous bolt, but he managed to document the aftermath.
Modøl went back inside for the remainder of the storm. He discovered burn marks all over the electrical outlet where his modem was. Also, his ceiling fan was off.
