Vitiligo is a rare skin condition that's characterized by patches of the skin losing their pigment. The affliction, which is thought to stem from an auto-immune condition, occurs when the cells (melanocytes) which make pigment in the skin are destroyed. The majority of people develop vitiligo in their twenties, though it can occur at any age. The skin condition is not painful, however many of the children who have this condition suffer emotionally, as they often become victims of bullies.
