“Beauty will save the world” ―Fyodor Dostoyevsky
As contestants for Miss Universe 2017 are gathering in Las Vegas, it isn't surprising that many have been grabbing selfie opportunities together.
Nevertheless, when Miss Iraq, Sarah Eedan, posted a selfie with her fellow contestant Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman, they might not have expected the mixed reaction that followed on social media.
Ms. Gandelsman shared a similar picture on her Instagram calling Miss Iraq "amazing". Her post received almost 3,000 'likes'. However, as one could guess, there were many negative comments, as Israel and Iraq don't maintain diplomatic ties.
Miss Iraq replied to the comments, saying that miss Israel's idea for the selfie aimed to send a powerful message for world peace.
