At times, it seems like the world is a dismal place. Although you might be tempted to write off everybody except for your closest friends and family members, don’t do that. The only way to improve upon what other people have collectively created is to become the change you want to see in our world. A man who has done exactly that — and was rewarded for it — is Brennon Jones.
Last year, the barber made headlines when he began to offer free haircuts to Philadelphia’s homeless. He said at the time, “Totally free. Feed em, provide them with clothing, toiletries, the whole nine yards.”

Today, he is still giving free haircuts to strangers. However, now, he will have his own barbershop — all thanks to another barber who paid it forward. As Fox 35 News reports, Sean Johnson was moved by what Jones was doing, so he decided to give the good Samaritan his own shop!
Said Jones, “He said listen, I’ve got a building I want you to come check out. He said, do you like this place? I said yeah I like it, he tossed me the key and said it’s yours.” Reportedly, Johnson was planning to expand his shop down the street. Then he met Jones.
“It wasn’t about me giving a barbershop when you look at the homeless and the things that they need; I looked at it as more. I built something, and I want to see it keep going, and I want to see it do a great thing,” Johnson said.
This development was an answer to Jones’ prayers. Obviously, he did not know how he was going to keep giving haircuts during the winter months. “I just continue to rely on my faith, God brought me this far I know he’s not gonna leave me now,” he said.
Because of Them We Can
In January, when Jones had just begun giving haircuts, he told the press:
“So many people walk by and don’t even acknowledge these guys who need help. They look down on people they don’t even know. I just wanted to provide something different than some change or a couple dollars. I’m blessed with a talent, so why not share it and make someone’s day? I just wanted to give back.”
The new shop is to open next month, with days set exclusively to give haircuts to the homeless.
Around 1.56 million people — or about 0.5% — of the US population used to be homeless between October 2008 and September 2009. If everybody who is reading this article were to reach out and assist just one of those people, the world would be a drastically better place.
