Despite the plenty of missile tests and the constant saber-rattling between North Korea and the U.S., very few Americans can find the secretive country on an unlabeled map.
Morning Consult conducted a new experiment at the request of The New York Times discovered that only 36%t of US adults could identify North Korea on an unlabeled map of Asia.
As the research shows, several Americans still have a poor level of geographic knowledge. That is nothing new with a 2006 survey which found that 6 out of 10 young adults failed to identify Iraq on a map of the Middle East.
Moreover, 75% of them could not find Iran nor Israel. This time, 1,476 American adults surveyed guessed Afghanistan, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam wrongly as the location of North Korea. More men (45%) were correct than women (27%) while Republicans were more likely to identify North Korea on the map than Democrats. Notably, those who could find North Korea favored diplomatic as well non-military strategies to resolve the crisis while those who couldn't identify it were in favor of military action.
