Most people who do not have a dog may think it’s mad to share your clean, cozy bed with your pet. However, most dog owners have a different opinion. It's a cute scene watching a dog curl up all cozy with their owner while they sleep soundly together. Still, considering muddy paws, dog hairs, fleas and ticks and you might change your mind.
Not every dog owner likes to sleep with their pampered puppy, and that’s understandable. However, having your four-legged friend beside you at night makes some people feel happier and more secure.
Now new research has come out demonstrating the benefits of sleeping with your pet.
A study of 150 dog owners conducted by the Center for Sleep Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale in Arizona found some fascinating results for animal lovers.
Among the participants, 56% said they shared their bed or bedroom with their dog or cat. And in this group, 41% said their pets helped them to sleep better. That was because the animals made their owners feel more safe with their pets by their side. Are you still not convinced? Here are seven reasons why sleeping with your pet is good for you.
1. It reduces stress and anxiety
There is evidence that dogs lower stress. For instance, therapy dogs are used worldwide to lower stress and anxiety. Just being beside your puppy is enough to make you feel happy and relaxed.
2. It makes you feel secure
Knowing that their pet is next to them makes most animal lovers feel secure. That is in addition to the fact that several dogs can physically protect you.
3. It keeps you warm
Most dogs love to lie down on their owners which is a real comfort. Also, your four-legged friend will keep you warm during the cold winter months.
4. It’s good for your pet
It’s not just you who will feel better having your dog in your bed with you; your dog will also appreciate being by your side at night. There's no one else in the world whom your dog loves more than you, so your four-legged friend will be very happy to be allowed to sleep in your bed.
5. It helps you fall asleep
Studies have shown that the sense of security you get from your dog can also help you sleep better.
6. It lowers the risk of depression
Dogs love unconditionally. For those people who suffer from depression, proximity to their pet can make them feel better.
7. It offers comfort
A hug from your four-legged best friend can improve your mood before falling asleep.
