We haven’t heard much from Jim Carrey recently, as he explores his artistic skills and also has to deal with a wrongful death trial over his ex-girlfriend’s suicide. However, his recent public appearance shows that he hasn’t lost his funny personality as he's trolling an entertainment reporter so hard that she’s totally left speechless.
Carrey seemed very dapper when he came at the 2017 New York Fashion Week Harper’s Bazaar Icons Party. However, while almost everyone who attended was paying tribute to those who have changed the face of fashion, that wasn’t the case for The Mask actor.
Jim Carrey hilariously circles the reporter at the beginning of the interview. However, the E! reporter makes a slight faux pas when she asks him why he arrived at the event on his own. Instead of letting it phase him, Carrey replies with an odd and brutal remark:
“There’s no meaning to any of this, so I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join, and here I am. You’ve got to admit it’s pretty meaningless.”
Then the reporter tried to tell him the night was about celebrating icons, but he didn't hold back. He said:
“Boy, that is just the absolute lowest aiming, you know, possibility that we can come up with. It’s like icons, do you believe in icons? I don’t believe in personalities, I don’t believe that you exist, but there is a wonderful fragrance in the air.”
Carrey tried to ease the tension with a brief impression of the singer James Brown’s ‘Get on the Good Foot’. The reporter didn't know what to say. Who would?
Then Carrey dropped several more truth bombs:
“Yeah I don’t believe in icons, I don’t believe in personalities. I believe that peace lies beyond personality, beyond invention of the skies, beyond the red ‘S’ that you wear on your chest, that makes bullets bounce off. I believe that it’s deeper than that.
“I believe we’re a field of energy, dancing for itself. And I don’t care.
“There is no me. There are just things happening, and there are clusters of tetrahedrons moving around together.”
He finished off the quirky interview with:
“Here’s the thing, it’s not our world. We don’t matter.”
A bizarre statement, but you have to admit it was fascinating. Jim Carrey at his best.
