There’s no better feeling than offering presents to the people you love. Watching their reaction when they open them is priceless!
That’s exactly what Linda and Bill Modry were looking forward to when they were on their way to visit their newly adopted granddaughter. They were glad that they could finally welcome the girl to their family and had a special gift for her so that she would never forget that moment.
Sadly, when they arrived at the airport’s security gate, one officer forced them to throw their gift in the trash.
Meanwhile, Amarri Hernandez who was waiting at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport with her boyfriend, witnessed the incident. As she wrote in a Facebook post:
“I witnessed a man being told that he was not allowed to take his package on the plane. The guy looked at the officer and said ‘Could I leave it at the airport in the lost and found. It’s a snowglobe for my adopted grandchild.'”
Unfortunately, the officer was unsympathetic to the man’s request. As Amarri added:
“The officer replied ‘Put it in file 13’ and pointed at the garbage can. The man was hurt and threw it in the garbage.”
When Amarri saw the man walking away from the trash can crying, it broke her heart. Her boyfriend decided to retrieve the package from the trash can. When they opened the package, they found a snowglobe containing pictures of the couple and the little girl. The gift was engraved with the message: We love you Katie, Nana and Papa 1/25/16.
Amarri was desperate to return the present to its rightful owners, so she posted a message on her Facebook page to try and find the couple.
Her post became viral and was shared more than 40,000 times. Luckily, it caught the eye of an employee of ‘Things Remembered’, the company which made the custom snow globe.
The employee saw Amarri’s post and got in touch. She searched through the company records until she finally found the name of the person who ordered the gift. It was Linda Modry. Amarri contacted her and returned the parcel to her. It was only then when Amarri realized how precious the parcel was.
“This was something very special,” Linda told Fox13 News. “It was for my granddaughter Katie because my son adopted her.”
The woman also said that her granddaughter was devastated when Linda could not bring the snowglobe to her in Ohio. Now, Linda cannot stop thanking Amarri for her kind initiative.
“She’s just amazing. I can’t believe that she did this. People are basically really good, and she’s just exceptional.”
Nevertheless, Amarri insists that she only did the right thing.
“My mom raised us to always be good to people,” she said. “I would want the same thing to happen to me.”
