Nick Burchill, from Nova Scotia, Canada, has been banned from the Empress Hotel in Victoria, the Canadian province of British Columbia for the last 17 years. Why? Well, he recently got the courage to explain the hilariously unlucky circumstances that led to his ban in a Facebook post that has gone viral.
It all began back in 2001, thanks to ‘Brother’s Pepperoni,’ a local delicacy from Halifax, Nick’s hometown. His Navy friends on the other side of Canada wanted to get their hands on some. Therefore Nick brought over an entire suitcase.
After his luggage was misplaced by the airline for an entire day, and as his hotel room had no fridge, Nick needed to come up with another way to deal with the smelly spoilage of his meat-suitcase. What happened next was hilarious events and poor choices, as the situation deteriorated into a seagull-infested mess as well as a lifetime ban for Nick. In case you're wondering whether the pepperoni survived, Nick said: “I managed to rinse off some vac-packs that the seagulls could not penetrate and pass them along. The recipients only just found out about that today.”
As the ban weighed heavily on Nick's conscience for all these years, the man decided that the time had come for a peace offering. “I have matured, and I admit responsibility for my actions,” he wrote on Facebook. “I come to you, hat-in-hand to apologize for the damage I had indirectly come to cause and to ask you reconsider my lifetime ban from the property. I hope that you will see fit to either grant me a pardon or consider my 18 years away from the empress as time served.”
It seems like Nick has made peace with the seagulls too, although he could be forgiven for holding a grudge. Scroll down below to read his incredible story for yourself:
