Some artists are born with an innate talent and drive for creativity others need a lot of training to achieve. Serbian child prodigy Dušan Krtolica started drawing when he was two years old, which means as soon as he got to the age at which he could hold a pencil. 15 years old, today Krtolica is a young but undoubtedly talented artist, mainly inspired by the animal kingdom.
Using pencils or black pens, the boy draws anatomically correct animals, as well as flora and fauna entirely from memory. The artist’s interest in the natural world started when his mother and father bought him a comprehensive encyclopedia of animals. After he absorbed the pictures, and wealth of information, the boy announced: “I'm going to draw all of them.” Elephants, antelopes, lions, and any other animal you can imagine formed Krtolica’s beautiful drawings which detailed every hair, tusk, and hoof of each creature.
Nevertheless, Krtolica does not limit himself to living creatures—like many kids and teens; he also has a unique fascination with dinosaurs and other early mammals. The boy recently had the chance to write and illustrate his very own published encyclopedia that teemed with prehistoric animals.
Krtolica wrote on Facebook:
“Our planet is four and a half billion years old. If we were to condense the history of Earth into one year, the whole of human existence would fit into the last few minutes. But what kind of species would we be if we did not want to explore everything that happened millions of years ago before we appeared?”
