When some guy stubbornly refused to put out his cigarette at a gas station, an employee of the station decided to go to extreme lengths to show him that it's not ok to smoke so close to a gas pump.
The video shot at Russia’s Gazprom gas station somewhere in Sofia, Bulgaria, depicts a man driving up to the station and getting out of the car. In a true CCTV fashion, the video is blurry, but one thing that we can clearly realize is that the guy seems to be arguing with somebody off camera. Then comes one employee, grabs a big fire extinguisher, pops it open and sprays the guy in the face with it. What happened?
According to a Reddit's post with an accompanying GIF, the customer refused to put his cigarette out, even after the attendant asked him to do so. The employee then took matters into his own hands by grabbing the fire extinguisher and spraying the customer down. Nothing like a good show-and-tell to teach children about things that can definitely go wrong!
The warnings against smoking next to gas stations should always be heeded. In 2013, a Georgia man faced charges of reckless conduct after the action of flicking a cigarette lighter close to his gas tank ignited a fire which “severely injured” his wife, according to authorities.
There are not many substances in the world more volatile than gasoline vapors. While vapors are well contained today compared to say, the 1960's, the risk of blowing up a fuel pump is still there. Even the most dedicated nicotine aficionado can abstain for the five to ten minutes required to refuel a vehicle.
We need to take this video as a lesson! Smoking at gas stations is truly dangerous, and no one should do it. We all know that gasoline and open flares make for a horrible blend. We have seen enough action films to realize that when fuel is included, everything necessary is a little start to set off a monstrous blast. That's the reason why smoking close to gas pumps is an outstanding no-no.
