If you've ever dreamt of quitting your job and moving to a Greek island, your fantasy could become a reality—as long as you love cats. God's Little People Cat Rescue on the island of Syros, Greece, is currently searching for the perfect person to take care of all 55 of its feline inhabitants. Apparently the ideal dream job for cat lovers, it may just seem too good to be true; however, the cat sanctuary assures all the interested applicants that “this is genuine and NOT a joke.”
You would think that spending time in the sun and close to the sea, and snuggling up to adorable cats all day sounds good enough already; however, it gets even better. The selected applicant will be paid a full salary and live in a small, semi-detached house with a garden overlooking the Aegean Sea, with all expenses paid (including vet bills). During an average 4-hour workday, the new kitty carer’s responsibilities will include feeding all 55 cats, giving them medicine, and taking care of the everyday running of the “small paradise.” The ideal candidate should be 45-years or older, have some veterinary training, and be able to drive a manual car. The position also requires people to handle feral and non-sociable cats occasionally, so it helps to be fluent in “cat-whispering.”
The job post reads, “We are located in a secluded nature preservation area, which is very beautiful and peaceful in the winter time but busy during the summer season. You’ll no doubt have a good time if you are the type of person who appreciates nature and likes tranquility – and rests comfortably by yourself. That said, you will never feel lonely in the company of the cats and you will be expected to live with a small handful of cats in your house.”
The selected candidate will be expected to volunteer for the first two to four weeks at the beginning of October 2018 while receiving training. The paid job will then begin on November 1st, 2018 for a minimum of 6 months. Sound like the perfect job for you? With over 3,000 applications so far, competition is high. However, if you think you are the right person for the job, you can apply by sending your photo and resume to God's Little People Cat Rescue’s owner, Joan Bowell at joanbowell@yahoo.com.
