Photographer Caroline Power took the following photos near Roatan, a Caribbean island in Honduras. They depict a sea of plastic glued together, floating like a giant turf in the middle of the ocean.
The area where the pictures were taken is usually compared to paradise, even though based on these pics it looks anything but that at the moment. Unfortunately, society and our way of life are to blame
The images show how bad pollution is, not only in the Caribbean but many other places around the world.
The worst part is that it isn't only unappealing to the eye, but it is also threatening to kill off marine life because of irreparable damage done to the environment.
The photographs taken by Power were taken as she and her dive group set out to explore the Caribbean when they saw a floating island of garbage that stretches for a shocking five miles.
As they made their way through the patch of floating rubbish, they encountered everything from soda cans, televisions, plastic bottles, and shoes.
Ms. Power went on facebook and posted the photos with a post titled: “THIS HAS TO STOP. Think about your daily lives.
“How did you take your food to go last time you ate out? How was your last street food served?
“Chances are it was styrofoam and served with a plastic fork and then put in a plastic bag. Do you still use plastic garbage bags?
“Plastic soda bottles? Ziplock bags? Plastic wrap on your food?
“Do you buy toilet paper that comes wrapped in plastic instead of paper? Do you put your fruit and veggies in produce bags at the grocery?”
Perhaps its time to think about our planet and our future on it, and remember that we're all stuck on the same island.
That's unimaginable! You need to see this page as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to see this. I hope we are still able to change this situation. That's important.
