Drumming presents us with an incredible experience where we can all feel free to connect with ourselves and others and restore and heal. It’s been said that drumming is a universal language where everyone can be a part of, free from words so that we can experience life with an open heart.
Recent research has demonstrated the therapeutic effects of drumming. It has also indicated that drumming accelerates physical healing and boosts the immune system.
Also, professional studies in music therapy and mental health show that drumming reduces tension, stress, and anxiety boosts the immune system, helps control chronic pain, and releases negative feelings, emotional trauma, and blockages.
In a study conducted by Barry Bittman, MD, group drumming raises cancer-killing cells, helping the body combat cancer and several other diseases.
“Drummers,” wrote Jordan Taylor Sloan at Mic, “can actually be smarter than their less rhythmically-focused bandmates.” And according to the findings of a Swedish study (Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm) shows “a link between intelligence, good timing and the part of the brain used for problem-solving.” As Gary Cleland puts it in The Telegraph, drummers “might be natural intellectuals!”
