Photographer Captures The Touching Portraits Of Homeless People And Their Old Dreams

For his project The Prince and the Pauper, photographer Horia Manolache, based in San Francisco, connected with homeless people, learned their life stories and shot two portraits of each of them: the first depicts them as they are now, while the second portrait shows them living the life or career they had once dreamed about.

After meeting his subjects, Manolache invited them to a portrait session in a studio set up in a hotel room. His wife gave haircuts and applied makeup for the “dream” portraits, and the props and outfits were rented or purchased from eBay and Amazon.

“The goal of my project was to show these people in an unlikely approach and from an unlikely distance,” said Manolache, “and I hope this book will help others to reflect on the homelessness problem.”
