Gunduz Aghayev is a cartoonist from Azerbaijan who isn't afraid to raise awareness about some of the most significant issues in the world. His artwork shows modern problems like social media addiction or mindless consumption of trashy television. He can spot the underlying issues in many different areas of society. Some of his artwork triggers controversy, based on the comments on some of the images on Facebook, we can see that some people like it and some don’t.
From 1998 to 2002 he studied in Azerbaijan State Painters’ Academy. His first exhibition was held in 2004. His second exhibition was held in the Baku Museum Center. His exhibitions have been held outside of the country, too. He participated in exhibitions held in Russia (2008), Turkey (2011) as well as “Friendship” exhibition held by the French embassy in 2002 and international artistry exhibition held in Turkmenistan in 2013. He also took part in the “Art for democracy” project. As a protest against injustice in his country, he turned to cartoon genre but was sacked of all projects. In 2014 he left Azerbaijan, after constant pressure.
