Birds are a symbol of freedom. However, their liberating ability to fly makes them seem so unreachable and mysterious to us. Fortunately, there's a way to meet with nature face to face and explore the fantastic feathered creatures in their natural setting without frightening them or causing them harm.
Lisa, going by the name Ostdrossel on her social media, was always fascinated by nature and birds. Therefore, when following her love to Macomb County in Michigan from Germany, she wanted to get a little closer to the birds in her yard which are uncommon in her homeland. She started to explore the ways to make it possible and, therefore, she has thousands of pictures capturing different gorgeous bird species, their funny expressions, majestic poses and sometimes crazy behavior.
While experimenting with food to lure the birds in, she had also set up up a camera trap that helps her implement her idea of watching the birds from up close. She uses a Bird Photo Booth 2.0 that consists of a camera box, a macro lens, and an attachable feeder. She uses a small camera equipped with a motion sensor so when a bird comes to eat, the camera captures in a non-intrusive way. Lisa's usual evening routine is going through an impressive number of photos taken during the day that can reach up to 7000. A photoshoot takes place daily in Lisa’s yard under any weather conditions.
