Not every hero wears capes some wear yellow vests and hardhats. Maurice German, a Verizon employee, was working in Port Richmond when he answered the distressed call of neighbors concerning their cat Princess Momma, that had been stuck on a telephone pole for the past 12 hours. Nevertheless, what ended as a happy story for the cat led to a job suspension for German.
The cat owners were distraught saying that they had attempted to contact the animal rescue, the fire department, and some other organizations for help but had been unsuccessful. Fortunately for them, German accepted the challenge and was recorded in a video from CBS Philly reporter Steve Lindsay, saving the animal with the help of his company equipment. Well, it turned out that Verizon doesn't have a soft spot for kitty rescue videos and responded by suspending the worker. Responding to his suspension, the internet has rallied around German in a genuinely touching way.
Port Richmond, Pennsylvania resident Amanda Fairchild Boyce saw her neighbor’s cat was trapped on a telephone pole. Boyce told CBS that the cat got stuck at about 10:30 pm on a Friday. She and her neighbors tried to rescue the cat themselves before calling for some outside help. One of Boyce’s neighbors Sandy McLeish, an animal activist, was the one to find the Verizon worker, that agreed to help them with their rescue mission.

Verizon didn't like the video and suspended him
German’s selfless act of goodwill moved the community, but Verizon said that the worker had put himself and people around him in danger and suspended him. “We take no joy in this job action,” Verizon spokesperson said Rich Young. “However, we’re committed and responsible for keeping our employees and customers safe while working in a particular area.”
The donations exceeded the goal by Sunday and raised about $3,000. People were touched by the story and have continued to contribute to the cause, and the donation number continues to go up.
Big Company, Little Company, Life Is More Important than anything else!! Should have used this for good Verizon, but your foolish money pride got in your way!!! Give the guy his job back and suck it up Verizon!!!
ReplyDeleteIts a good topic for high School Social Studies debate between following company policies (that ignores other things in life) and doing the right thing (even if disobeys rules and regulations.
