Goats are great! Usually calm and fun-loving companions, if you’ve got a little space for them to roam and lots of grass to munch on they can make the perfect addition to your family. Sometimes, however, their playful and competitive nature can get a little over the top, and these pointy horns can do some damage to fellow goats and humans alike.
While training your goat when it’s young, to avoid any aggressive behavior when they grow up, is the most desirable course of action, the pool noodle solution is a funny and cute temporary solution. How long do they actually stay on the horns before they are ripped off and chewed is questionable, but if it protects somebody from injury then why not?
Aggressive behavior can be anything from merely stubbornly disobeying and showing no respect to their owners, to kicking, biting, and pushing things around with their sharp little horns. They do not always do it on purpose. However, these pool noodles can protect kids playing with goats from getting hurt, or maybe during milking.
And it doesn’t just pool noodles! People have improvised in many ways to protect them from headbutts. From buckets and duct tape to tennis balls stuck on the sharpie bits.
Whatever method you select, remember that training is always the best option, even if goats are stubborn and mischievous. It might take time and patience, but you will have endless fun watching your four-legged buddy wandering around with brightly-colored pool noodles fastened tightly on its horns!
