Italian artist Pietro Cataudella takes his sketchbook anywhere he goes, but his drawings not only depict the places he visits—they become part of the landscape. His ongoing project, CityLiveSketch, features architectural 3D drawings that seem to jump from the artist’s journals, depicting famous landmarks as part-real, part-illustrated. Most recently, however, Cataudella took his imagination a step further by playfully merging buildings and everyday objects with unexpected characters and cartoon worlds.
In a piece humorously titled “The leaning hairstyle of Marge Simpson,” the artist holds up his drawing of Marge, lining her up to the Leaning Tower of Pisa as if it is part of her famous updo. In another, named “London Smile,” Alice in Wonderland’s grinning Cheshire Cat becomes part of the Tower Bridge. Even the colorful ghosts from Pac-Man make an appearance, dotted through the streets of Gaeta, Italy.
