Skate brand Vans is famous for partnering with various brands and artists to produce collections which celebrate art and culture. In 2018, it released a stunning collaborative collection with the Van Gogh Museum, allowing fans to wear the Dutch master’s art from head to toe. Now Vault by Vans is releasing another art-inspired collection, that features classic sneaker styles adorned with a curated selection of Frida Kahlo’s paintings.
The colorful footwear collection celebrates the Mexican artist’s art and life, best known for her self-portraits and nature-inspired works. Three of Vans’ iconic styles have now been updated to honor Kahlo’s artwork, including the OG Sk8-Hi LX that currently features one of the artist’s famous self-portraits, titled The Two Fridas (1939), styled with a dark green toe cap. The OG Authentic LX shoe features a watermelon print from the painter’s Viva la Vida (1954) artwork, and the OG Slip-On LX celebrates the iconic painting Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird (1940).
The limited-edition Vault by Vans x Frida Kahlo collection is launching on June 29, 2019, and will be available at select Vault dealers.
