We're all aware of the majestic horses – they're animals that are our friends and might have helped us for time immemorial. We've ridden on horses, used them to pull the plows, and made them military and police animals that can save the city in times of need. Nevertheless, with cars, the demand for horses lowered. We do not see them around too much unless we are watching a Wild West movie. But that does not mean that they're not there in certain pockets. Lots of people own horses in their ranches or keep them as pets. Sometimes, they go for riding them too.
However, many people don't understand that horses can develop a strong bond with human beings as well.
Wagner Lima found his best pal in his horse, Sereno. In their home in Brazil, they were the best of friends. They'd been with each other for about eight years and couldn't live without one another.
However, the happiness wasn't going to last for long. One day, Wagner went out on his motorcycle and had a tragic accident. He lost consciousness and soon passed away.
Sereno waited for his best friend’s return for a long time, but he didn't come back. Sereno must've thought that his best friend must've forgotten about him. Dejected, he then turned away from any happiness in life.
Seeing his condition, the family understood what must've happened. They couldn't hide the truth from Sereno anymore, so they took him to the church where Wagner’s funeral was taking place. When Wando, Wagner's brother, entered the church with Sereno, Sereno broke down. He could smell his late friend that lay motionless in the coffin.
Very emotional, Sereno rested his head against the coffin and bid his last goodbye. He started hitting the ground in anger, helplessness, and frustration. Wager’s brother will care for the horse now, yet things will no longer be the same as Sereno. His friend is nowhere to be found.
Things may look emotional, yet according to Robin Foster, an equine behaviorist, horses, and humans form a great bond over reciprocal altruism. When the owner rewards the horse with love and kindness, they get it back. And this is how they create a bond.
