Despite how Cale Wrenn was having trouble during his first days of high school, some compassionate upperclassmen helped to turn it around.
The 14-year-old freshman was struggling to make friends at Reidsville High School in North Carolina—and it did not help that some of the other students were picking on him for being short.
Cale expressed his sadness to his older sister Leah Edwards, saying that he was forced to eat lunch by himself because some children thought he “was a loser.”
Leah was heartbroken by her brother’s predicament—therefore, she took some screenshots of their text conversation and shared them on Twitter, asking her followers to send messages of reassurance to Cale.
The youngster received a slew of encouragement from social media users, while his post caught the eye of a few high school seniors as well.
@LEAHNFJK I told you I was going to be with him at lunch now he got a whole gang !!! And simple reminder is Steve invited your family out to a grizzly game on Saturday at 7 and it’s free please always remind him that he always got a place at my table pic.twitter.com/VpV8URlnSs

True to his word, Demontez—along with some other members of the basketball team and the Boys to Men Club of the school—sat with Cale at lunch and took him under their wing.
Cale was surprised by the students’ kindness, but he says he’s incredibly grateful for their intervention.
He’s now hoping his story will help other bullied kids to keep their chin up and remember that things do get better.
After local reporters interviewed him and his new friends, he made sure to thank his sister for “probably the best experience” of his life.
