Climate change activist. Teenage environmental superstar. Fighter for climate justice. The face of the youth movement against global warming. Those are only a few of the compliments that 16-year-old Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg has received over the years. However, some people either disagree with her message or the way she presents it. Some of these people are civil about it, while others lash out at her online.
Nevertheless, Greta’s used to getting on the wrong side of some people and she’s tougher than she looks. So rather than falling to pieces from some angry comments after her speech at the recent UN Climate Change Summit, Greta decided to hit back at her critics in a viral Twitter thread.
Thunberg says that she first heard about climate change in 2011, when she was 8 years old. The little girl could not understand why so little was being done about it. Three years later she became depressed and stopped talking and eating. Eventually was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, OCD, and selective mutism. Her Asperger diagnosis was made public in Sweden by her mother back in May 2015, to help other families in a similar situation. While Greta is aware that her diagnosis has often limited her, she does not view her Asperger's as an illness; she has instead called it her "superpower".
