There’s little doubt that hard work and perseverance can lead to success. A Filipino farmer’s son has proven exactly that. The young boy worked really hard to get an education in spite of his family’s poverty. His effort was rewarded with a scholarship at the prestigious Harvard University.
According to Elite Readers, Romnick L. Blanco grew up in Bulacan province in the Philippines. He’s the son of a Filipino farmer who wanted his kid to get a proper education. Romnick took his dad’s dreams to heart and never missed school. The boy would have to cross a river every day only to get to school. But Romnick never lost hope and continued to study hard. Soon, he was excelling in his classes.
The hard work and Romnick’s intelligence earned the support of the GreenEarth Heritage Foundation, the local charity that helps impoverished farmers’ kids. This organization provided access to English and computer literacy classes and an allowance for going to school.
Soon, it became clear that Romnick was indeed something else. The foundation offered him a full scholarship to attend International School Manila. There he graduated with top honors. Romnick caught the attention of many international universities that offered him full scholarships.
The young man had his pick among prestigious colleges such as Wesleyan University, Dartmouth College, and New York University at Abu Dhabi. Nevertheless, Romnick ultimately chose to accept the full scholarship at Harvard.
Romnick graduated in 2017 but took a gap year to explore the world. But he never forgot his roots. The young man planted 1,500 trees at his father’s farm, a significant addition to the ones he's already planted in childhood.
The young Filipino student's story is really remarkable and inspiring. Romnick has already begun attending Harvard, and his future continues to be bright.
