It's incredible how far some people can go to help their loved ones. And 64-year-old Md Zin Ahmad went very far. I mean, literally. Every day, the man from Bukit Pasir, Muar, travels more than 100km to and from, to sell salted fish. His purpose is to earn some money to support his sick wife.
A tweet from a Malaysian girl recently went viral, when she posted about this man walking around trying to sell his wares. She wanted to help the man and shared his picture, hoping that people that saw him can help out by buying his fish. She came across the man when she was participating in a marathon close to Dataran Pahlawan.
This senior actually went viral in 2018, when Berita Harian interviewed him and he shared his sad story. He would leave his house from 8 am onwards to catch the bus to Melaka so that he can support himself and his sick wife. He'd take along about 100 packets of salted fish to be sold in Melaka, which is his source of income.
He has four adult kids but insists on selling salted fish as he does not want to be a burden to them, as they have their own families to support too. He does not mind as his 73-year-old wife, Fatimah Md Said, is sick at home, and he needs to help her.
Md Zin sells his salted fish at RM10 for three packs, and based on the tweet, he's been selling his wares for more than five years, as some netizens said that they had seen him doing so in 2012. They even said his salted fish is delicious! He does not stay in one place either, as he walks around many different spots to make sure he sells all his salted fish.
While Md Zin has diabetes and high blood pressure, he said this isn't a problem as he has medication to control his illness. Many netizens sympathized with the uncle’s plight and gave him their prayers and blessings, with some saying that whenever they encountered the man, they would buy from him and give him a few ringgit extras as well.
