Shocked by the ongoing situation in Australia, women of the Australian Islamic Centre took the initiative to help in any way they could. With the help of social media, the group from Newport, Victoria managed to raise $1,500 in donations and five trucks full of supplies in only 48 hours. The courageous Muslim women traveled for about four hours to get the food supplies to 150 exhausted firefighters who have been fighting the blazes. Once they arrived at Johnsonville, the women started cooking meals.
As a volunteer told The Islamic Information, the devotion of the firefighters was really emotional. Tons of people died, millions of land acres were burned, and many others were trapped concerning the upsetting bushfires in Australia.
Rashid Elhouli, who manages online public relations for the Australian Islamic Centre, revealed to CNN that the women traveled for many hours to get necessary supplies to the victims of the raging bushfires. They also fed 150 firefighters in Johnsonville, for which a firefighter named Rodney Baylis expressed gratitude in a video shared on Facebook.
The devastating fires were all about massive destruction and disaster. Nevertheless, this incident succeeded in attaining back humanity. A group of Muslim people went into a fire-struck area to show support to the ones affected by the disastrous fires.
Elhouli also revealed that the Australian Islamic Centre started making plans to aid the thousands of people affected by the fires. After speaking to the Melbourne Fire Brigade, they decided to put out a call for donations for supplies such as water bottles, milk, baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, and fresh fruit via social media. The following day, the center hosted a sausage sizzle after the prayer service, serving plates of food to raise money for the victims.
Other members traveled along with the volunteers for over four hours to give out aid boxes to those affected with the fires. Even though the event was initially scheduled to raise money for their youth program, Elhouli said that the group decided to "donate it all to the bushfire appeal."
Melbourne Fire Brigade accompanied them in the concerned areas with offloading the items. The Australian Islamic Centre shared a post on Facebook saying they do not have enough words to reveal how much they're proud of their sisters.
The Australian Islamic Centre shared photos of the women who volunteered and worked tirelessly for days to organize the fundraiser on its Facebook page, praising them for their hard work and dedication to the cause.
