Sometimes it's hard to know when we've found the one, even when all the signs are pointing towards that. It's usually because we've been hurt in the past too many times, and we now find it hard to believe that it's our turn to finally shine. It's often impossible to just believe in your good luck.
However, if you let yourself go and try to look at your relationship from a realistic perspective, you'll find out that some signs are easy to spot.
Here are nine signs that you've found the love of your life - the relationship that is meant to last.
1. You trust each other completely
When you meet the love of your life, there is no space left for dishonesty, suspicions, and jealousy. If you genuinely love them, you know as much as they do that you would never hurt each other in any possible way. You share everything, never lie, and would never even consider cheating with another person.
2. You've met their friends and family and so have they
When you're truly in love, you want all your beloved ones to meet your significant other. They are part of your world and family now. If you and your partner have met each other's parents, siblings, and friends, it's a clear sign that your relationship will last.
3. You can be yourself around them
The right person for you will accept you with your flaws and moments of vulnerability. Whether you feel confident or insecure, dressed up, or lounging around in a t-shirt and leggings, they'll make it clear that they are crazy about you. You'll never have to put on a façade; they know you are human and are willing to forgive mistakes and strange quirks.
4. You both try equally for your relationship
A one-sided relationship is sad and rarely translates to a happy long-term relationship. If you suspect that your partner does not care for you the same way you care for them, it is probably time to move on. Equally, though, if you find that you're unable to return their feelings, it is better to break up with them so that they can find a better match.
5. You plan your future together
Close your eyes and then picture yourself five years from now. Where would you like to live? What type of hobbies would you like to have? Do you want to have kids? If you automatically imagine your current partner beside you, that's a perfect sign; it suggests that you have begun to think of them as your long-term love.
6. You're willing to try anything, as long as you're together
Love usually gives us the confidence and motivation to move beyond our usual routines. Consistent support from our partner can help us step out of our comfort zone. If you've met somebody who makes you feel as though anything is possible, there's a good chance they are The One.
7. They are the first person you call to share relevant news
When something significant happens in your life, who do you call first? If the answer is "my partner," this shows that they have earned themselves an essential role in your life. It also suggests that you find them trustworthy, a non-negotiable trait in a partner.
8. You share the same values and dreams
You don't need to agree with your partner's opinions fully. One of the biggest joys of a relationship is the opportunity to see things from another person's perspective. Neither do you have to share the same hobbies or hang out with the same group of friends. Balancing time together with time apart, is critical in a healthy relationship.
Nevertheless, if you want to build a life together, you'll need to share core values and life goals. Otherwise, you'll soon find yourselves arguing. For example, if you're family-oriented and want to have many kids, but your partner has always imagined they'd remain childfree, that would be an insurmountable obstacle to your life together in the long run.
9. You listen to one another
Unless your partner listens and respects what you have to say, they aren't the one. Likewise, if you often find yourself switching off during your discussions or inwardly rolling your eyes regularly whenever they are talking, you are not compatible. Excellent communication is everything.
