After the outbreak of the novel coronavirus CoVid-19 in Iran, there have been controversial reports on the total number of deaths that have resulted. The official records claim a total number of 724 deaths out of 13,938 confirmed cases so far. Nevertheless, several posts on social media, as well as reports from residents in Iran, show a different picture.
A story release from the Washington Post suggests that mass graves were made for the dead victims of CoVid-19, which are so large they are visible from space. The news reveals that the total number of deaths must be much larger than the official reports claim. A colorado-based space technology company, Maxar Technologies, has provided images taken from satellites which reveal an excavation of a large unused section in the Behesht-e Masoumeh complex in Qom for the purposes of burying the death victims of the virus. The excavation took place on the 21st of February, right when infections started spiraling out of control in the specific region.
The cemetery's location is near the south side of Tehran, where most confirmed cases of the novel virus have been identified. A comparison of the new images with the satellite images taken back in October confirms no activity taking place at the location until excavation works began in February. The current images demonstrate the presence of two large pits that exceed 100 yards in length. There is also evidence to suggest the placement of large numbers of lime piles used to eliminate odors coming from the dead bodies. Iranian health officials have also verified this, according to the Washington Post.
Experts analysing the images confirm the alleged contents, which is in agreement with the testimonies of eye-witnesses and people who have been involved in the excavation project. It is also clear that the excavations were made fast, illustrating the absence of the traditional burial practices of Iran due to time constraints. The findings confirm previous claims of the citizens of Iran who had reported that the number of deaths is actually much higher than the number stated in the government's reports. At the start of the outbreak in Iran, a man had been arrested for filming dozens of bodies in a morgue, possibly on their way to being buried at the excavation site that satellite photos depict.
