The people we associate with, including our friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances, have the power to influence us in tremendous ways. Our daily encounters and especially those with people we associate the most, play a significant role in the development of our personality, as well as the goals we set for ourselves.
Every person we include in our lives actively constitutes a potential influencer. Having this in mind, it is essential therefore, that we choose to interact with people that we admire so that we are able to grow into the best version of ourselves. Below we examine the ways in which we can benefit from spending time with people who we admire.
1. We learn new skills.
Ambitious people tend to be very active and creative in the ways they develop in dealing with life and pursuing their goals. Associating with people who have ambitions will greatly contribute to us learning valuable lessons in how to handle situations and moving towards our target. The useful skills we learn from them will help in overcoming obstacles and effectively fulfil our aspirations.
2. We get inspired.
People who are continuously growing and developing are people with ideas. And those people are not afraid to implement their ideas and do not stop working on them regardless of the failures. Those people are confident in who they are. They do not hesitate to admit their beliefs and to share their views about the world. They are restless in that they cannot be stopped from producing something or learning something new. When spending time with those people, it is inevitable to get inspired and motivated to work on our ideas as well, to discuss your ideas with other people, and to witness them become a reality.
3. We are exposed to others' real-life experiences.
Experiences in real life lessons are not something that can be learned from textbooks. It is instead something that is transmitted from person to person through their own life experiences. Surrounding yourself with people who are rich in those experiences can help you understand the importance of failing to really succeed.
4. We get motivated
Observing the inspiring life journey of people who are succeeding through their adventurous exploration and experimentation, through their own trials and errors, we can't help but feel pushed to do the same. Action brings motivation and or not the other way around, and ever through mere observation of the actions of people close to us, which have lead to successful endeavors, we can't help but get motivated to act ourselves.
5. We get a new perspective.
By being part of a circle of talented people, we get exposed to a variety of perspectives and so we are able to see the world in a multitude of ways. Active observation of the diverse perspectives of people you admire around you will sharpen your critical thinking and stimulate your imagination. Each person is unique, and with their uniqueness comes a uniqueness in the way they are thinking and viewing the world. Exchanging views provides an excellent ground for personal growth and development.
6. We become more self-aware.
Spending time with people who are full of purpose makes us reconsider and reevaluate ourselves. We are compelled to reexamine our goals and the reasons for setting them. This way, we become more self-aware about the things that really matter to us and how we can lead a fulfilling life.
7. We become more open to experience.
Lastly, spending time with people, we look up to and find inspiring, forces to get out of our comfort zone. By getting out of our comfort zone, we learn to be less vigilant and anxious, and instead, we become more open to experience. Many psychologists have indicated that openness to experience contributes positively to taking risks, exploring, and continuous development and evolvement, which makes people more likely to become successful.
