“Adversity makes men, and prosperity makes monsters.”
― Victor Hugo
Life can get incredibly tough and challenging, but through times of uncertainty comes a firmer sense of who we are and what we can achieve.
People are adaptable beings, and by overcoming difficult situations, they learn how to build more sophisticated coping mechanisms to deal with life with greater confidence.
Below, we outline seven traits that people inherit from repeatedly dealing with life's challenges.
They feel confident in themselves
In overcoming obstacles, people get to know themselves better and also get a sense of the things they want from life. Their intuition is sharpened, and they learn to distinguish good from bad choices. This way, they manage to draw the right path.
They become aware of their value
Strong people are critical with themselves, able to identify both their weaknesses as well as their strengths. They are also aware of their limits, and that's how they do not lose valuable time comparing themselves with others. They know that they have flaws, but always remember that every person is unique.
Pain makes them braver
Surviving painful situations and experiences makes people ever stronger and braver. Learning from their struggles, strong people are trained fighters. Rather than viewing them as drawbacks, failures become instead opportunities to learn and develop into the best version of themselves.
They are not scared of their emotions
Strong people are not afraid to be in touch with their emotions. They have learned to hear and admit their emotions to themselves, defend their emotions to others so that those become their guiding compass through life that will never betray them.
They do not crave attention
Strong and confident people do not seek attention to feel gratified; what they are always looking for instead is, respect. They are disinterested in people who do not treat others with respect and always walk away from them.
They know how to forgive truly
Strong people view grudges and revenge-seeking behaviour as a waste of their time. Their minds and hearts are clear from the harmful and poisonous thoughts of others. When someone has done them wrong, they are wise enough to see through the other person's actions, and by understanding their reasons, they often empathize with them. This gives them the ability to forgive genuinely.
They always speak the truth
Strong people are honest with themselves and others. Despite how painful the truth may be, they know that being truthful is the only way to lead one's life. They prefer hurting someone's feelings rather than being dishonest with them.
