There is nothing better than spending time in our garden, if we are lucky enough to have one. Summer days outside barbequing, drinking beers or just relaxing with a cool ice-tea are some of the great pleasures in life! Some people though have gone one-step beyond to create an even more impressive garden experience.
This creation by blogger and Instagrammer Lauren Ashworth is really something to behold. Her fire pit pergola went viral as soon as she shared it on Facebook and Instagram and many are now planning the construction of their own backyard hangout. With Lauren and her husband’s help they now can, as she has shared the instructions on how to build the construction to the blog Remodelaholic.
Discussing the build Lauren said:
“Brett is a career Firefighter and is the overall facilitator and muscle behind all-things-reno at the farm. I work part-time and devote the rest of my time as a SAHM to our precious son, homemaking and cultivating our farmhouse dreams. We have a passion for restoration and we’re eager to see our property transform. You can join us over on our blog as we embark on the ultimate DIY: Our 100 year old farmhouse!”
She went on to say:
“It is truly an outdoor oasis and an area we created for the sole purpose of bringing our family and friends together. It’s a conversation piece around our small town and we love making s’mores, star-gazing, and relaxing here at the end of the day.”
While we don’t all have a lot of extra-money hanging around at the moment the build is not extremely expensive. All of the materials are believed to cost around $2,300 in total (labour was a DIY job and therefore only cost some sweat and elbow grease – and of course it wouldn’t be a bad idea to call up some friends for help).
The construction can obviously be modified for different garden spaces and additions can be added to the specifications of whoever is building it. For instance, it has been suggested that with only a good quality sheet and a projector it would be possible to set up a small cinema. Now imagine sitting back on a summer night, having a cool drink and watching a movie outside, wouldn’t that be great!?
If you do decide to do any construction yourself though, you have to be careful. As safety is paramount, always be aware when using power-tools to use them correctly, and if you are not too sure ask a professional or someone who knows what they are doing for help. Also, it is a good idea to plan the construction from beginning to end, so you know exactly how it is going to look and how it is going to sit once completed – that means getting your measurements bang-on precise. You don’t want to get half-way and find out the construction won’t fit or will get in the way of normal activities.
We can all agree that Lauren’s and Brett's build looks amazing, and we hope it serves as a location for lots of great memories yet to be made!
