When KC and Lena Currie got married in 2013 they decided that they wanted to start a family of their own by adopting a child. But they didn’t believe they would end up with 3 brothers!
The couple from Massachusetts adopted 18 month old Joey in 2017 after meeting him at the Children’s Friend adoption centre in the town of Worcester. Then just soon afterwards they received a phone call letting them know that Joey’s new brother, who was only 6 weeks old at the time, also needed a loving home. The couple acted immediately saying they would take little Noah into their family like they had Joey.
With two brothers, the new family were settling into life thinking that while they originally planned to only adopt one child they were now completely thankful for the opportunity of looking after the siblings. Then another phone-call came.
It was again from the adoption agency. They had discovered that the two boys had a middle brother, Logan, who was living with a foster family but who was not adopted – without hesitation the couple made the move to complete the family. In such a small space of time the couple who had been seeking to adopt one child were left with a trio of brothers! And all the more happy for it.
KC said:
“It was our gut-feeling. We were going to end up saying yes because keeping the brothers together was really important to us. When they’re older and have questions, they’ll have each other to lean on and experience that ride together.”
The adoption of all 3 boys was made official in November 2019 and KC and Lena are now their official legal parents. They are hoping their story inspires others to look into adopting those children without stable homes, regardless of their family make-up. After all a loving-home is a loving-home.
Veronica Listerud, director of adoption and family services at Children’s Friend said in regards to the adoption story of KC, Lena, Joey, Logan and Noah:
“It’s what you want to see happen. They’re a wonderful family. They’re flexible — they really understand the kids’ needs, the importance of maintaining sibling relationships, and the long-term impact of that.”
Unfortunately, there are far too many children being brought up in homes with unsafe environments or by parents who lack the faculties to look after them appropriately. Adoption is also a great way for those who are unable to have biological children of their own to become real parents.
