A man in Connecticut quarantined himself after braking into a closed restaurant, consuming thousands of dollars worth of food and drinks over a period of four days.
The 42-year-old man, named Louis Angel Ortiz, was arrested soon after plundering the Cuban restaurant located in New Haven, which police estimate he entered through a side window.
Louis Ortiz, apart from consuming large amounts of food and drink, he also proceeded to steal thousands of dollars worth of liquor, about 70 bottles, New Haven police reports.
“Officers learned Ortiz helped himself over the course of four days to the restaurant’s food, liquor and beer,” police said in a statement.
“In addition to eating and drinking at the restaurant, Ortiz removed beverages and property from the building,” officials confirmed.
After a manager dropped by and noticed someone was sleeping inside the closed restaurant with a bottle of rum, he notified the police, officers then brought him to custody. He was also caught on the restaurant’s surveillance video.
The restaurant was identified as the Soul De Cuba Café, which prepares serves homestyle Cuban grub.
“Management estimated the loss of food and beverage at several thousand dollars,” the police stated. “The loss includes an estimated 70 bottles of stolen or consumed liquor.”
Ortiz was charged with robbery, theft and criminal mischief. He was also charged with failure to appear to court on another case incident. He is now due back in court on the 27th of May, and he remained in custody at the New Haven Correctional Center in lieu of $10,500 bail.
