Struggling Over the Loss of a Loved One

Are you struggling to get over the loss of a loved one? People passing on is something that is guaranteed to happen to absolutely every single one of us in our lives, but that doesn’t mean that it is not one of the hardest things for us to cope with. We long to hear their voice and talk with them again and as a result, we begin to see things and hear things in ways we didn’t before. This is a strange but very common phenomenon. Here are ways we can still remember our loved ones, and how we can still feel a connection with them.

By seeing objects connected to them

When we see an object connected to a lost loved one it can instantly spark a memory - a memory of them wearing the object or perhaps it is something they had in their house that reminds us of the great times we had there.

By hearing music

Music is one of the best triggers of memory. When we hear a song, often unexpectantly, we will be reminded of the person who has passed. Maybe they loved the song or maybe we were with them when it was playing on some occasion.

By smell

The smell in the human memory that lasts the longest. That’s right, accurate smell memory lasts a lot longer than vision or sound memory and so when we smell certain smells we can instantly be taken back to remember a loved one. Maybe they made bread in their house, or they wore a certain perfume or cologne, or maybe their garden smelled a certain way when you played in it as a child.

By seeing them in dreams

Dreams are a door into our subconscious mind. It is very common to see the deceased in dreams and for it appears that they have communicated with you. Some ancient cultures even believed that this was the passed person trying to make contact from the spirit world. While that may or may not be true it does show that our minds have an unbelievable power to show us those who are no longer here.

By hearing their voice or even seeing them in your peripheral vision

This is not uncommon. Don’t think you are going crazy if you start to see people or hear their voice. All this is your mind being trained to work in a certain way and adapting to their loss. This is particularly common if it is the loss of a pet that you are grieving. Many pet owners routinely say they see flashes of their pet in the house for many months or even years after they have died.

By feeling their love in our heart

When people pass the love they had for you and the love you had for them doesn’t die. It remains locked in both your eternal memories. Even if you had disagreements or fell out with each other, that love remains. This is the most important thing of all to remember.

Loss is hard on us all but please keep these things in mind going forward. Your loved one who has passed would want you to have a happy fulfilled life and that is the best way you can honour them.
