British socialite and philanthropist Ghislaine Maxwell, former girlfriend of deceased sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein, is held in prison on charges of being involved in his sex-exploitation ring and may not make it out alive according to a lawyer for some of Epstein's victims.
It is believed that the heiress (daughter of media mogul and former member of the British parliament Robert Maxwell, who himself died in mysterious circumstances on his yacht in 1991 after being suspected of embezzlement) is going to cooperate with authorities to guarantee herself a lighter jail sentence.
Some have claimed that the sex ring that Epstein ran involved some of the most important people in the world, with some alleging that Prince Andrew was involved in, or knew of, some of Epstein's activities.
Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in 2019 on sex-charges involving dozens of underage girls but was found dead in his prison cell soon after. He had previous convictions for sex crimes dating back to the mid-2000s. While some accept the ruling that Epstein killed himself, others believe he was killed by powerful forces to keep him quiet about their involvement in his sex-ring.
Spencer Kuvin, a lawyer for some of the Epstein victims, now believes a similar fate could await Ms. Maxwell, particularly if the powerful forces believe she will reveal their involvement. He told the Daily Mail:
"I don't think she is going to get out of jail alive. I said the same thing about Jeffrey Epstein and people laughed at me. I think she knows way too much information. I just have this gut feeling. It may be that she can't handle the fear of what's going to happen to her and takes matters into her own hands or there will be people who are very afraid of what she has to say."
Many of the conspiracies surrounding Epstein's death circle around the fact that the surveillance footage inside the area in which Epstein was living was 'accidentally deleted' along with the back-ups that were also meant to exist.
A source at the prison says they are now making extra-care that Maxwell is kept an eye on at all times. The source told the UK newspaper The Sun:
"Given the death of Jeffrey Epstein in jail, everybody is obviously concerned about making sure nothing happens to Ghislaine Maxwell. Her security is a top priority. The case is being handled extremely sensitively."
The recent Netflix documentary series, 'Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich', explored his sordid world and his relationships with high-ranking politicians and public-figures, including the Clintons (who stayed at his holiday home). It also included an interview with Prince Andrew and the story of a woman who claims that she was given as a 'gift' to the Prince when she was 17.
The Prince denied the allegations, saying in an interview with the BBC that it wasn't true because he had a medical condition which made him unable to sweat. The woman had claimed he sweated profusely during one of their encounters. He also said that in one of the nights in question, he was actually at a Pizza Express restaurant.
The world will hold its breath to see what Maxwell will reveal in the upcoming trial.
