Pictures of a loyal dog have spread across the internet showing the true loyalty of our canine companions. The story, while heart-breaking, shows us the deep bond that pets build with their owners.
The small dog in Wuhan, China, waited by a bridge for 4 days after his owner jumped in the river from the bridge. The dog was first spotted by an individual known as 'Xu', who took the photographs contained in this article.
After he repeatedly saw the dog and realised that it was abandoned, the matter was investigated further. When going through CCTV footage, it became clear that a man had jumped from the bridge, leaving the dog behind, although the nature of the jump or the reasons behind it are unclear. The man's body has not been discovered.
Du Fan, director of the Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association, sent out his team to collect the dog and to hopefully find it a new home. However, when an attempt was made to lift the dog, it ran away and has not been seen since.
The Animal protection officers are now asking anyone who sees the dog to contact them so that they can put it up for adoption. Du Fan stated:
"We still hope to find a new owner for the dog. We think it's too sad for such a loyal dog to stray on the streets."
Dogs are notoriously loyal to their owners, and this is hardly the first case of dogs waiting for their owners to return, even after it is likely their owners have passed away. Perhaps the most famous example of this is Greyfriars Bobby, a Skye Terrier who guarded his owner's grave in Edinburgh, Scotland, for 14 years in the mid-19th century.
