A restaurant in Denver has kicked up a storm of criticism after charging customers extra for asking stupid questions. Yes, we know there is an old mantra that says 'the customer is always right', and therefore stores and restaurants should always cater to the needs of the customer. That said, anyone who has ever worked in the retail or catering sector, and most certainly any server, will know fine well that human stupidity knows no bounds.
The restaurant in question, 'Tom's Diner', first came to widespread attention when a customer posted their bill on Reddit. On the bill, it can clearly be seen that they had been charged an extra $0.38 for asking a stupid question.

While this may at first appear as though a disgruntled employ is poking fun at them, or that Tom's Diner just has some really messed up customer service, the truth is that it is all part of a larger fun joke. In fact, 'stupid questions' are even listed on the menu!
Manager Hunter Landry told TODAY:
"It's meant to be playful. It's good to keep things light in today's world. When we have a good fun table that engages with us or when they ask about the charge, it's always fun to add it on. It's all about not taking yourself too seriously. We're not here for a long time, so let's enjoy ourselves and try to make the most of this life."
The manager went on to spell out exactly what a stupid question looks like, giving the example:
"Does the ice have any water in it?"
The restaurant's menu also includes 'healthy options' such as "Skip Your Next Meal" and "Walk Home", which are charged at "$ Money Saved Well" and "$ Priceless".

It is certainly good to know that in these trying times, some people and businesses have not lost their sense of humour. Tom's Diner, a 24-hour restaurant, has been going strong for 20 years and, despite current hardship, is still up and running!
