Canada's chief medical officer has said that couples should avoid kissing and wear a mask during sexual intercourse in order to halt the spread of CoVid-19. She also said that sexual activity between individuals should be avoided if possible and that going solo was the best way to stop the spread of the deadly virus.
Dr. Theresa Tam said that while sexual activity itself does not spread CoVid-19, being in close contact and especially kissing was a near certainty for passing on the disease when with new partners.
"Like other activities during COVID-19 that involve physical closeness, there are some things you can do to minimize the risk of getting infected and spreading the virus. The lowest risk sexual activity during COVID-19 involves yourself alone. Canadians can find ways to enjoy physical intimacy while safeguarding the progress we have all made containing COVID-19."
Needless to say, if someone infected with CoVid-19 is close enough to you to have sexual relations, then it is highly likely you will become infected as well whether you wear a mask or not.
The bizarre advice mirrors that of The Terrance Higgins Trust, an HIV/AIDs organisation in the UK that has long campaigned for safer sexual practices. In early August, they said that it was no longer reasonable to imagine people refraining from sex and that those that do should wear a mask. It also said that people should wash their hands for 20 seconds before and after intercourse.
The advice was slammed by many as completely ridiculous, irresponsible and immature and that it is not acceptable that people would risk the lives of people in their communities and accelerate the advance of a deadly disease simply to have sex with a new partner.
Canada has recorded over 120,000 CoVid-19 cases and almost 10,000 deaths, while the UK has recorded 340,000 cases and 40,000 deaths. However, the real number of cases in the UK is believed to be 10 to 20 times higher than the official numbers state, while 60,000 excess deaths have occurred since the start of the pandemic. Some antibody studies show that as many as 1 in 5 people in London have now had CoVid-19.
