Aquariums and deep-sea centres allow us to take a step underwater and see what it would be like to plunge into the depths of the ocean without ever getting wet. We get to see sharks and octopuses up close in a way that our ancestors could never have imagined.
While this isn't strictly an aquarium, going to Uncle Bucks Fish Bowl and Grill feels like you are underwater. The remarkable décor of the inside of this hang-out is so realistic you would be forgiven for thinking that the huge sharks and other fish are 100% authentic.
Located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, United States, Uncle Buck's is fitted with a 12-lane bowling alley, a restaurant, a bar and a gaming arcade. In the bar, there is a real aquarium filled with exotic fish from around the world.

While not-open during the pandemic, the expected reopening should see plenty of people flooding in to use the exciting facilities. Uncle Buck's website lays out exactly what you can expect:
"A host of exotic fish swim in and around the wreck while Dorado and Sharks, suspended from the ceiling, appear to swim overhead. The bar features a huge saltwater aquarium with scores of beautiful, tropical fish. It is elevated to provide views of the bowling action while serving up your favourite refreshment."
The place has received excellent reviews as well, with some TripAdvisor reviews reading:
"My Granddaughter (9) was visiting with us, so we decided to book a "little guppy" party. We had our family and friends join us and had a very nice time. There were 16 people bowling and some adults who didn't. The decor of the place was really nice and different. Made you feel like you were under water! We ordered 2 extra pizza pies and some extra pitchers of soda & lemonade. Pizza was tasty."
And:
"Great service, great food. We stopped here initially for the bowling after we were told there was one at a Bass Pro Shop. We decided to skip the bowling, and just eat at the restaurant. It wasn't very busy, but we decided to sit at the bar. The waitress was very friendly and always checked on us. Food was good. I got the fish tacos and my husband got alligator tacos (which I tried and was good)."
The great news is that you won't have to travel to Connecticut to enjoy Uncle Buck's underwater paradise. There are also locations in Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee, Texas, and Tsawwassen in Canada.
So, if a trip with something a bit different is your kind of thing, make your way to Uncle Buck's, you will have a 'whale' of a time.
