A new fantastic sculpture by artist Daniel Popper has been unveiled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Known as 'Thrive', it is a testament to the year of 2020, in which the world has experienced and overcome some of the worst times in living memory.
The amazing fibre-glass figure stands at 30-feet tall and weighs over 14 tons. The figure can be seen opening its chest wide to reveal a forest of ferns and vegetation, representing nature breaking free into the world around. It has already been greatly admired by passers-by and those living in the city.
Popper, who is based in Cape Town, South Africa, specialises in public sculpture and installations, which cover a wide range of themes. Among other works, he is the creator of 'Modem Swamp', which featured at the Modem Swamp music festival in Croatia.
Popper said of his latest work:
"I hope they will continue to interact with it and enjoy it and that the message and feeling continues for many years to come. In many ways it's a symbol of hope and transformation which have been central to many people's worlds during 2020."
He also says that he will be continuing to create new sculptures and installations in the years ahead, particularly as travel becomes easier in the year to come. Thrive is an amazing work, a testament to human ingenuity and to the fact that even in the bleakest of times, truly great works of art can be produced.
