During the current pandemic, huge interest and research has been put into how workplaces can become more secure and protect us from the spread of not only Covid-19 but other pathogens in the future. Indeed, even before the pandemic, certain workplace such as call-centres and offices were notorious for diseases such as cold and flu spreading rapidly.
To solve this problem, one company in Israel has now developed a new air-conditioning system that kills 99.999% of viruses, meaning that air-laden with bacteria and viruses is not recirculated and instead clean germ-free air is pumped out.
Invented by Israeli air-conditioning company 'Tadiran', the 'AIR CARE' technology in its 'SUPREME' air-conditioner model works by generating hydrogen peroxide, a chemical usually used in hair-dye. The system operates by turning the moisture in the air into the germ-killing chemical. It does this with 'ionising technology' that turns the H2O (water) molecules into H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) molecules.
While hydrogen peroxide is a toxic substance, the amount produced is far too small to have any effect on humans while at the same time strong enough to destroy the vast majority of those things in the air that could harm our health, such as mould, bacteria and viruses.
The revolutionary technology has now been tested out at an American FDA-approved laboratory which showed it was highly effective and killed almost every single pathogen.
Tadiran CEO, Moshe Mamrod, said in a statement:
"Research by the World Health Organization has found that our home living environment is five times more polluted than the outdoor environment – something that causes infections among millions around the world. Several years ago, we already decided to lead in the field of treating the air and producing a healthy home. After a big investment and three years of development, we have achieved a technological breakthrough in protecting enclosed spaces and providing solutions for a healthy home and for clean air. The new technology has been tested and approved by an FDA registered laboratory as well as by academics. The patents that we have developed are currently being presented to leading air conditioner companies around the world, and they are arousing major interest."
With one patent on the new air-conditioning device approved and one patent-pending, the financial returns for the Israeli company could be huge. One can only imagine the revenue that would be generated if every major office or government building in the developed world decided that having a virus killing air-conditioning system installed was a worthwhile investment, or if health and safety regulators decided that moving forward, our workplaces should be made safer through the installation of such devices. Many institutions may even see the use of such air-conditioning systems as a useful financial investment given the huge number of working hours lost each year to diseases that spread around offices and forcing workers to take sick-leave.
