A fitness model in Ukraine has come under huge criticism after revealing that she had tattooed her cat.
Elena Iwanickaya, who frequently posts on Instagram images of both herself and her cat, first revealed images of the tattooed feline a couple of years ago in 2017, but despite the criticism, she appears to have no regrets.

Yasha, who is a Sphynx cat and therefore completely hairless, has the tattoo of a winged creature, supposedly of an Egyptian god, on his chest. On the original post revealing the tattoo, Elena responded to those criticising her by saying that the cat did not feel any pain and that such an act was signed off on by a vet. While some might imagine the tattoo being fake and used to drum up attention, Elena did also reveal a picture of the poor animal having the tattoo carried out.
"This cat's life is better than yours. Maybe it is hell for you, but he feels just fine. He has not been castrated and he never will be, this would be real cruelty. I checked with the vet before getting him a tattoo and they were fine with it and a vet was present while they were doing the tattoo, so everything was under control."
"The cat is treated with love and care... he is very smart and enjoys his happy life. The tattoo was made on the upper layer of skin. Only 1-2 millimetres, he did not feel any pain. Right after the procedure he behaved normally and started to go on with his normal routine."
Police in Ukraine had previously stated that they would open a criminal investigation if it was shown that the cat had suffered as a result of the procedure, but as of yet, there appears to have been no action taken.
Needless to say, the internet was full of outright hatred and revulsion towards Elena's actions, with users leaving comments such as:
"Unfortunately, the cat spent the worst hours of his life. It is impossible even to look at these photos!"
"You just can't torture those who are weaker then you, it is not a toy, it is a living being. She did not put a tattoo on her chest."
"Would be better to ink her forehead with a tattoo saying 'idiot' and break her finger for torturing a defenceless animal, poor kitty."
"Animal abuse isn't something to be proud of. You want a tattoo, then do it on your skin, not on your cat."
And:
"Tattooing your pet is NOT fashionable or trendy. This is EXTREME animal abuse! You should be ashamed of your behaviour!"
Yasha, now has his own Instagram page with over 5,000 followers.
Elena herself now has over 72,000 followers.
