An Italian man has confessed to killing both his parents because they asked him to walk the family dog. Benno Neumair, who is 30 years old, is alleged to have killed both his parents and then attempted to cover up the crime.
His parents, Peter Neumair and Laura Perselli, who were both teachers, went missing at the start of the year. Benno Neumair was arrested several weeks later after his mother's dead body was found in a river close to their home. His father's body has never been found.
The murders took place in their home in the city of Bolzano in the northern Italian province of South Tyrol.
After the body of his mother was found, Benno Neumair was taken into police custody where is said to have confessed. The killer is a bodybuilder who is known to have an online presence showing off his bodybuilding activities.
In his confession, he said that his father asked him to take the dog for a walk, when he refused, they had an argument and his father called him a failure. His father followed him into his room and started berating him for not doing enough chores at home and for not advancing himself. It was then a fight began in which the son first beat his father and then strangled him to death with a climbing rope. Benno said:
"Dad accused me of being a failure. I just wanted silence. So I shut him up. I took the first climbing rope I found from the plastic tray of my tools. We were in the hallway and we fell together on the ground. I just remember that I squeezed very tightly. I did it without even saying goodbye."
When his mother returned home, he murdered her via strangulation as well. He then says that he took the bodies and threw them off a bridge and into the river.
He is now being held at a prison awaiting trial in the town of Bolzano. He is charged with two murders and the concealment of bodies.
